 Koloman Moser (1868-1918) 

Koloman (Kolo) Moser was born in Vienna march 30th in the year 1868.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts built by Theophil Hansen and at the Viennese School of Applied Arts, where he later, after 1899, worked as a teacher.

Kolo Moser occupied an important position in the Austrian art scene of the turning of the century, as he was one of the founders of the Secession, the organisation of graphic artists in the year 1897. Furthermore, together with Josef Hoffmann and Fritz Wärndorfer he founded the Wiener Werkstatte and contolled together with Josef Hoffmann over the means of production and sale of their artistic work.

Moser worked as a graphic designer for severals magazines for exemple "Ver Sacrum", "Hohe Warte" and "Der liebe Augustin".

As a craftsman Moser designed a mosaic as well as the stained glass windows for the "Kirche am Steinhof" by Otto Wagner, the most famous consecrated building of the period before 1914.

1095 Koloman Moser demonstatively left together with the group around Gustav Klimt, the so-called "Klimt-Gruppe", the Secession.

Furthermore, Koloman Moser is one of the founders of the "Österreichischer Werkbund".

Besides graphics and craft Moser worked as a painter. His first pictures show the influence of impressionistic tendencies, in his later years it was the painter Ferdinand Hodler, who had strong influence on the style ofKolo Moser.

Kolo Moser died october 18th 1918 in Vienna.

 Koloman (Kolo) Moser wurde am 30.3.1868 in Wien geboren.

Nach dem Studium an der Wiener Akademie für bildende Künste und an der Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule, an der Moser ab 1899 als Lehrer tätig war.

In der österreichischen Kunstszene der Jahrhundertwende nahm Koloman Moser eine entscheidende Position als Gründungsmitglied der Wiener Secession ein. Weiters gründete Moser mit Josef Hoffmann und Fritz Wärndorfer die Wiener Werkstätte und übernahm gemeinsam mit Josef Hoffmann deren künstlerische Leitung.

Als Grafiker arbeitete Moser an unterschiedlichen künstlerisch gestalteten Zeitschriften mit, wie etwa "Ver Sacrum", "Hohe Warte" oder "Der liebe Augustin".

Kunstgewerblich tätig wurde Moser unter anderem durch den Entwurf des Apsismosaiks und die Glasfenster für die Kirche am Steinhof von Otto Wagner im Jahre 1904.

Im folgenden Jahr trat Koloman Moser mit der Klimt-Gruppe aus der Wiener Secession aus.

Weiters ist Koloman Moser Mitbegründer des Österreichischen Werkbundes.

Neben den Bereichen Grafik und Kunstgewerbe widmete sich Kolo Moser der Malerei, wobei seine zunächst von den Impressionisten geprägte Malerei in seinen späteren Schaffensjahren ganz unter dem Eindruck eines Ferdinand Hodlers stand.

Koloman Moser starb am 18.10. 1918 in Wien.
